Did you guys know that Trump's plan to deport millions of illegal immigrants would cost hundreds of billions of dollars?
CBS knows.
But beyond the anticipated damage to immigrant families, communities and local economies, the roundup and deportation of some 11 million people is near impossible to bankroll, according to an analysis of U.S. budget and immigration court data by CBS News …
[W]hen Trump was president … the cost of deporting one person was still $14,614. To deport all 11 million undocumented immigrants estimated to be living in the U.S. at that time would have cost between $40 billion to $54 billion a year over the next presidential term — up to $216 billion total. ICE was allocated only $9 billion last year …
A similar analysis from the American Immigration Council put the total cost of deporting 11 million people even higher, at $315 billion.
Let's just use that $315 billion number as the one CBS is citing in this "Trump's deportation plan would cost hundreds of billions" headline. It's the highest one I could find in the article; and why not give them the benefit of the doubt?
So now let us see how much it costs us, per year, to take care of these illegal immigrants Donald "Hitler" Trump wants to deport.
From Julie Kirchner, Executive Director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR):
Our estimate, which is a conservative one, is that Americans now pay $150.7 billion dollars annually due to illegal immigration.
This seems to be the number agreed on in Congress, and across the board when I search Google.
(Though I've seen estimates as high as $225 billion annually.)
For perspective, $150 billion is comparable to the entire military budget of Russia in a given year, or two years for the militaries of the UK, Germany, France, or Ukraine. The U.S., which outspends all other nations on its military by leaps and bounds, could still fund all its warship, planes, ammo, and troops for 20% of the year with that budget!
You'll be absolutely surprised to hear that CBS News makes no mention of this number.
Imagine the payoff over the next 10, 20, 100 years by not using taxpayer money to house, transport, and feed tens of millions of foreigners who are here illegally!
If you actually want to report reality, the plan wouldn't cost "hundreds of billions of dollars." It would save us trillions.
This all may be quite moot, however, as CBS News notes,
Trump's own administration, despite promising to deport millions in 2016, deported 325,660 people during the fiscal years he was in office.
You gotta get it done if you get re-elected, Mr. President!
