While most people are scheming ways to get rid of pesky squirrels, Derrick Downey Jr. has turned his Los Angeles apartment balcony into a squirrel oasis.
Over the last few years, Downey has been slowly adding to the squirrel home, putting up a tiny picket fence, dollhouse furniture, and even a miniature working TV.
Two longtime visitors to his squirrel's paradise are Richard and Maxine. The two squirrels are frequent subjects on Downey's TikTok channel which has gained more than one million followers while documenting the squirrels' escapades and his miniature home improvement projects.
Apparently, the world is in need of some wholesome squirrel content. Or people (especially Downey) just have too much time on their hands. He even decorates their home for Christmas!
But for Downey, it's time well spent.
The bond that I have with Richard and Maxine and all the other neighborhood squirrels is something that has been fostered for years. There's some type of connection there.
