China's state-run newspaper says Chinese warships might soon show up near Hawaii, is anyone looking into that?

The Chinese government seems to be getting bolder with each passing day—last month several of its destroyers were spotted off the coast of Alaska—and now one of the government's official mouthpieces is warning that they may soon show up near another U.S. state:

Chinese warships could "soon" show up near Hawaii and Guam, according to China's state-run newspaper "Global Times."

The newspaper said warships could be on their way following claims that the US Navy challenged international waters near Beijing.

Uh yeah that seems like a big deal. Probably best if we had some guys keeping an eye on things in Hawaii.

On Twitter, meanwhile, a tense back-and-forth on the matter recently occurred between Global Times Editor-in-Chief Hu Xijin and the U.S. Navy's Chief of Information:

In the event of any conflict, of course, our money's on the U.S. Navy, assuming General Milley doesn't tip the Chinese navy off beforehand.
