FBI arrests Chinese spies operating out of illegal Communist Party police station in NYC

Big news out of Chinatown today after the DOJ announced they arrested two spies working at a Chinese Communist Party police station hidden in New York City.

Lu Jianwang, 61, and Chen Jinping, 59, have been arrested for operating the illegal police station and destroying evidence when raided by the FBI.

The New York Times has the story.

Two men were arrested early Monday on federal charges accusing them of conspiring to act as agents of the People's Republic of China in connection with a police outpost it operated in Manhattan's Chinatown, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

According to The Times, there are about 100 of these "police stations" set up by the CCP all over the world. You might recall that we reported when Canada allowed China to set up shop there with no pushback.

Apparently, this station has been set up in the U.S. for quite a while, but this is the first arrest of this kind involving Chinese foreign agents.

Here's more from the DOJ's announcement today:

As alleged in the complaint, Lu and Chen are charged with conspiring to act as agents of the PRC government as well as obstructing justice by destroying evidence of their communications with an MPS official. The defendants worked together to establish the first overseas police station in the United States on behalf of the Fuzhou branch of the MPS. The police station – which closed in the fall of 2022 after those operating it became aware of the FBI's investigation – occupied a floor in an office building in Manhattan's Chinatown. While acting under the direction and control of an MPS Official, Lu and Chen helped open and operate the clandestine police station. None of the participants in the scheme informed the U.S. government that they were helping the PRC government surreptitiously open and operate an illegal MPS police station on U.S. soil.

I, for one, am just glad to see the DOJ prosecuting an actual crime against actual bad guys.

The statement from the DOJ does not indicate how long the illegal police station has been operating. There is also no indication of how many more of these are spread across the U.S.

Maybe we should focus more on that and less (as in, zero) on persecuting soccer moms and Catholic churches.
