Well, this is NOT something I expected to see from CNN.

A CNN polling analyst looking at the latest numbers believes that not only is Trump the runaway favorite to win the Republican nomination, but he's gaining ground in the general election too.

If it's Trump vs. Biden again, Trump has a shot.

I want you to take a look at how close this race is at this particular point... the largest lead for Joe Biden is just three points, within the margin of error, no clear leader... If you go back to where we were at this point 4 years ago Joe Biden's lead was high single digits to low double digits. This is significantly closer than where we were 4 years ago so this idea that Donald Trump can't win the general election, I want you to lose that idea. This race is very very close and Donald Trump is polling better right now than basically at any point during the 2020 cycle.

This is actually shocking for many in the pundit class that have written Trump off.

Of course, after 7 years of trying to destroy Trump, part of me wonders what CNN's angle is here: The Dems have been pushing for Trump because they think he's the only shot Biden has at winning (literally anyone else less polarizing would win in a landslide).

But the more they indict Trump, the more they try to pin him for something, the more people are coming to his side.

It's a long time until 2024, but this is a very interesting development.
