An unknown number of people are dead and millions are without power after the fearsome Gulf storm finally made landfall overnight:

Hurricane Milton howled across the Florida Peninsula on Thursday, tearing a path of destruction from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic as it knocked out power to millions, flooded neighborhoods, destroyed homes, tore the roof off a major sports venue and toppled a massive crane into an office building.

The "major sports venue" was the Tropicana Stadium, and the destruction of its roof was nothing short of astonishing:

As of Thursday morning, the primary fatalities that had been reported were 4 deaths caused by tornadoes in St. Lucie County, which is on the Atlantic coast of the state, opposite where Milton made landfall.

That "massive crane," meanwhile, took a massive bite out of the Tampa Bay Times building in downtown Tampa:

This crazy spectacle was seen in Palm Beach Gardens.

There were 35 confirmed tornadoes and 133 tornado warnings in the South Florida area as Hurricane Milton made its way to Florida.

One was reported in the gated Avenir Palm Beach Gardens community off Northlake Blvd and Avenir Dr in Palm Beach Gardens on Wednesday.
