Are you tired of waiting for your "energy-efficient" washing machine to take 120 minutes to wash a load of clothes, only for them to come out all dingy?
Well, take heart, because some enterprising conservatives are going to bat for all of us:
A conservative think tank has filed a lawsuit challenging the U.S. Department of Energy's new energy-efficiency requirements for household clothes washers and dishwashers, arguing the Biden administration lacked authority to adopt the regulations.
The Competitive Enterprise Institute on Thursday filed a lawsuit, opens new tab on behalf of two consumers in federal court in Amarillo, Texas, a venue popular among conservative litigants whose sole judge is an appointee of Republican former President Donald Trump.
The lawsuit takes aim at "the new energy-efficiency standards that the Energy Department adopted in February and April that cap water usage by both types of machines."
You know, the rules that often leave your clothes feeling kinda grody, like it would've been better if you cleaned them on the rocks down at the quarry?
The suit argues that "the statutes the Energy Department relied upon to justify the new rules did not actually give it authority to adopt water efficiency standards for appliances other than showerheads, faucets, water closets or urinals."
(It's kind of an arcane argument, but hopefully it'll get the job done.)
Here's Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn last year going to town on these stupid types of regulations:
If CEI is successful in this attempt, let's hope they can go after the miserable air conditioner rules next:
