Construction crew abandons Oakland street repaving job because the neighborhood is too dangerous

This story is so absurd it could only come from America's GTA playground: Oakland, California.

A neighborhood in East Oakland has become so dangerous that even construction workers — armed with hard hats and steel-toed boots — said, "Nah, we're good," and left an entire street looking like Godzilla just passed through.

After they discovered that their union didn't include hazard pay for potential drive-by scenarios, they reportedly abandoned Colorados Drive, leaving it looking like a gravel pit with potholes.

Resident Shari Angarano told KRON4 that the street conditions went from "bad to worse," which, if you're in any way familiar with Oakland or its infrastructure, is really saying something!

Shari explained, "The ground is uneven and a lot of the gravel used to fill potholes is being kicked up."

Gravel: Oakland's confetti.

Back in March, the residents of Sobrante Park were given a glimmer of hope. They received letters promising that Colorados Drive would be repaved. Signs went up, work began, and then ... they left, like Joe Biden when the drugs start to wear off. According to Angarano, the street was prepped for paving, and the barriers clearly indicated the crew would return on May 15th and 16th to finish the job. But those dates came and went, and the road remained a post-apocalyptic nightmare.

When Shari called for an explanation, she got a bombshell of an answer: the contractor pulled out because the crews didn't feel safe. Even people whose job description includes operating jackhammers and dodging traffic cones said, "Nope, not today, Satan."

KRON4 reached out to Oakland's Department of Transportation who promised the project will resume this week and finish sometime this month ...

Unless crime in Oakland isn't solved by then …
