Nebraska nursing home sends "dead" woman to funeral home, only to discover she was actually still alive

It wasn't your average day for a funeral home in Nebraska, after they discovered that a 74-year-old hospice patient who had been declared dead by her nursing home hours earlier was actually still alive.

Prayers up for the funeral home worker who made that discovery…

The 74-year-old woman was in hospice care at The Mulberry nursing home in Waverly, Nebraska. The staff believed that she would pass away soon, and around 9.45 a.m., she was pronounced dead. She was then transported to Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home (which sounds a bit like a divorce law firm), and while staff there were preparing for funeral arrangements, one of them noticed that she was still breathing. She was then moved to a hospital for further care by Lincoln Fire and Rescue.

According to reports, the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case, while Chief Deputy Ben Houchin has said that they have not found any evidence of criminal intent so far, or any laws that may have been broken.

Almost burying someone who is still alive isn't a crime?!

The funeral home and nursing home did not provide comment, presumably because they were frantically going through their patient records and double-checking that everyone is as alive or dead as previously thought.

But with Joe Biden in the White House, we can't forget that not even consciousness is a barrier to success in today's America.
