Could this be the next Cronut?

It's Mardi Gras time, and Alabama knows how to celebrate right.

When the city of New Orleans was founded, Mobile, Alabama had already been partying it up for Mardi Gras for more than a decade. Alabama may be last in a lot of things, but they were the first to Mardi Gras and perhaps the first to the deliciousness that is the Donut King Cake curtesy of Sugar Rush Donut Company.

They have truly taken this traditional Mardi Gras treat to the next level with their spin on a King Cake, which in this case is, well, a GIANT donut. The inside is filled with cinnamon sugar, and the outside is covered in a generous amount of cream cheese icing.

At first glance, you may not notice it's anything other than your usual King Cake, but upon the first bite of cream cheesy deliciousness, you'll realize what is typically a dense bread has been replaced with the lightest, fluffiest yeast donut known to man.

You may think I'm exaggerating, but believe me, I don't exaggerate. In the words of my husband, "This is 10,000 times better than a King Cake." He is prone to exaggerate, but in this case, he is 100% accurate.

It's hard to beat a good King Cake OR a good donut, but I think Sugar Rush has just beaten the odds.

Mardi Gras celebrators everywhere salute you!
