DC Comics celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month by releasing covers that reduce Hispanics to food

We've published more articles wondering about why woke lefties are so insistent on reducing Hispanics to food.

I mean, it seems like a simple concept: people are not food. But they just won't stop.

Now, DC Comics has decided to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month, September 15-October 15, by releasing covers of its superheroes eating Hispanic food.

La Borinqueña creator Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, thought the food covers were tasteless.

"I feel that it is incredibly tone-deaf — almost like a parody of our culture when we're reduced down to food, you know? And that, street food," Miranda-Rodriguez said. "It's very, very codified for me. But it also speaks to how unaware they are that this is coded, that this is offensive, that it is tasteless. And it feels very exhausting."

The cover of Kyle Rayner as Green Lantern was particularly upsetting since it was a redo of a cover that didn't reduce Hispanics to food.

Clearly a bag of tamales is much more Mexican than say, a Mexican flag, Mexican symbolism, a homage to a great Mexican muralist, etc.

It sounds like at least as far as the Green Lantern Molina cover goes, DC Comics may be reverting to the one actually representing Hispanic culture, and that the tamales cover was incorrectly reported as the correct cover.

A DC statement said,

It is part of DC's internal creative process to receive and develop multiple versions of comic artwork from our artists. Some are released as variant covers, others are never used.

There was no word on the other controversial covers.

Miranda-Rodriguez said,

Their characters will continue to inspire generations to come like they have before, but it's exhausting when you have a situation like this. They don't just see this as an opportunity to do something to celebrate our heritage, and in essence, turn it around and make a mockery of our heritage and reduce us to menu items.

Let's hope that last part isn't as prophetic as it seems.
