D.C. is ending its mask mandate in everything from bars to strip clubs, but kids will still have to cover their faces at school

Have you noticed that, despite two years of solid data from every country on the planet, people are still pretending that Covid is 1) dangerous to kids and 2) effectively stopped by loose-fitting cloth masks that get touched and dropped all day?

Maybe it isn't about the masks or the risks at all.

Or the kids, for that matter.

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser said Monday that the city will lift its mask requirements for many public venues, including bars, restaurants and schools – but it will still mandate masks for schoolchildren.

Swamp creatures, rejoice! The gods of Science™ hath granted thee the ability to smile and breathe again!

As for you dirty kids: Get in line, you little mongrels!

The places where people will no longer have to wear masks will be "[r]estaurants and bars," "[s]ports and entertainment venues," supermarkets, pharmacies, retail businesses, private offices, D.C. government offices and "[h]ouses of worship."

But the district will still require masks at "schools, childcare facilities and libraries," as well as healthcare facilities, jails, and on public transit.

So kids get the same courtesy as prisoners, the sick, the dying, and crotchety librarians.

In the past year, I count two times when I begrudgingly wore a mask in a particular facility that staunchly required them. My doctor hasn't even required them in forever.

Most Americans outside the blue prisons that used to be called "cities" can probably relate!

Bowser was asked about when the district might lift mask mandates in schools, which have been harshly criticized by parents as potentially harming the development of children, especially younger ones.

Just gonna drop this here:

This, of course, doesn't even touch on the mental health issues for these children caused by lockdowns and masks.

But Mayor Muriel Bowser will eventually get around to treating your kids like humans again.

Probably. Maybe.

"That's a good question," she said. "We continue to work with our school communities over what they think it will take to keep kids safe and in school. We thought that our last group of little ones would have access to the vaccine in February. It turns out it's going to be sometime later. So I don't think that we're going to have a decision about schools sometime soon."

She's specifically talking about vaxxing kids under 5, since the FDA hasn't green lit the vax for them.

UNDER 5!

Let's do some math:

  • As of February 5, a total of 93 children age 1-4 in the entire country have died WITH Covid over the past TWO YEARS, out of 7,377 who have died from other causes during that time.
  • Even without the consideration that most of these children have comorbidities and immune issues, this means a child has a 1% chance of dying from Covid – compared to the 99% of other diseases, accidents, and violence that can tragically bring their lives to an early end.
  • During that same time, 39,473 infants under 1 year have died. Only 203 have died WITH Covid.
  • Nearly 100% of all cases are now Omicron, which is far less severe and lethal than earlier variants on an exponential level, but is far more infectious, meaning it will inevitably infect everyone no matter what measures are taken.

But yes, it's all about the science!

At least Bowser can rest on the knowledge that she's destroyed small businesses too:

The timing of that decision sparked backlash from supporters of The Big Board, a D.C., bar which was shut down for its refusal to comply with the vaccine mandate.

"You shut down @thebigboarddc, a veteran-owned small business, for nothing. Disgraceful," Rep. Dan Bishop, R-N.C., tweeted.

Bowser was also asked about The Big Board. She said dodged making any specific statement about the bar but said the city may have already accomplished its goals of increasing vaccination rates with its mandates.

That last line is the kicker.

All that matters to those in power is that they've accomplished their goals of "compliance."

"Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now do you begin to understand me?" – 1984
