Federal Democrats' latest attempt to expand the abortion franchise—the "Women's Health Protection Act of 2021"—is horrible for its assault on the unborn.
It would strip much of the practical and meaningful protections that state legislatures have put in place to protect unborn Americans, and it would more or less explicitly federalize abortion through all nine months of pregnancy. All proper-thinking people should be opposed to it.
Bad as it is, however, we can at least have a dark, grim chuckle over just how comically afraid Democrats have become at referring to pregnant women. Since the new LGBTQ orthodoxy is that men, too, can become pregnant, much of the language on abortion has followed suit.
From the bill:
The terms "woman" and "women" are used in this bill to reflect the identity of the majority of people targeted and affected by restrictions on abortion services, and to address squarely the targeted restrictions on abortion, which are rooted in misogyny. However, access to abortion services is critical to the health of every person capable of becoming pregnant. This Act is intended to protect all people with the capacity for pregnancy—cisgender women, transgender men, non-binary individuals, those who identify with a different gender, and others—who are unjustly harmed by restrictions on abortion services.
It's just golden, folks.
The term "pregnant woman" appears precisely zero times in the bill, and it goes to great lengths to avoid such medically accurate language:
To protect a person's ability to determine whether to continue or end a pregnancy...
Abortion access allows people who are pregnant to make their own...
...the preservation of the life or health of the person who is pregnant...
A requirement that, prior to obtaining an abortion, a patient make one or more medically unnecessary in-person visits...
I mean, come on.
This fight can be emotionally, mentally and physically draining.
We should be grateful to the Democrats for injecting a little levity into the whole affair. Thank you, Democrats!
