In a move that should surprise absolutely no one, Disneyland Shanghai took the drastic measure of locking all of its 33,000 guests in the park late Sunday evening in order to test them for Covid. Why? Because of a single case of the virus that was identified in a guest that had attended the park the previous day.
Seriously.
All because one guest that had attended on Saturday later tested positive, they lined all of those people up and submitted them to forced Covid tests on the spot. The images that have surfaced of the incident look like something out of a dystopian novel...hazmat suited healthcare workers swabbing thousands of people in single file lines. Images like that would be shocking in any timeline except our own, where "public safety" trumps all perceived rights to privacy and personal space.
You can't make this stuff up.
The park will (arbitrarily) remain closed for 2 more days before reopening. Because...sCiEnCe?
The good news is that Mickey himself was not among the infected, and all the guests had already paid for the right to stand in line endlessly, so this really didn't change anybody's plans too much.
