Domino's promotion honoring Karens is cancelled... due to Karens
· Aug 2, 2020 · NottheBee.com

If this isn't one of the most 2020 things I've seen, I don't know what is.

This year has been the year of the "Karens," with the 'Rona crisis allowing them to take their craft to the next level.

(Karen finds your lack of faith disturbing and wants to speak to your manager.)

This trend has not come without backlash. Many people (read, the vast majority of the human race) have taken issue with entitled women screeching woke/entitled screeds at them on a regular basis.

Some businesses, noticing the discrimination against these poor souls, have sought to help the Karens. One such business was Domino's in Australia/New Zealand, which launched a July 26 campaign to give away pizza to 100 lucky people named Karen.

In a press release, Domino's explained the promotion:

"It's a tough time to be a Karen. Karen the nurse, Karen the teacher, Karen the mum, Karen the neighbor, Karen the mask wearer – we're all in this together, but a vocal minority who believe rules and laws don't apply to them have given the name "Karen" a bad rap this year. At Domino's, we know there's plenty of Australians named Karen that aren't, well, "Karens" – and we want to send some free pizza their way!"

Allan Collins, Domino's Chief Marketing Officer for Australian and New Zealand, explained more of the reasoning for the promotion:

"In 2020, 'Karen' is no longer content to speak to the manager," said Collins. "Now, she's dobbing in her neighbors, refusing to quarantine, or wear a mask. Consequently, the name "Karen" has become synonymous with anyone who is entitled, selfish and likes to complain. What used to be a light-hearted meme has become quite the insult to anyone actually named Karen. Well, today we're taking the name Karen back."

Unfortunately for Collins and Domino's, they were playing with forces beyond their control. Almost immediately, the Karens of the world united and unleashed their wrath upon the pizza chain, calling the promotion "tone deaf" and most likely demanding to speak to a manager.

In response, Domino's canceled the promotion.

The irony is thick with this one: irony that many have not failed to notice.
