The San Bruno Police Department was conducting a grant-funded DUI operation when they saw a car make an illegal U-turn right in front of them.

They popped on their lights and pulled the car over.

There was just one problem.

There was no driver.

The car was a Waymo taxi: Google's autonomous taxi service.

The police department took to Facebook with the unusual circumstance.

More from CBS News:

A Waymo spokesperson said the autonomous driving system ‘is designed to respect the rules of the road.'

‘We are looking into this situation and are committed to improving road safety through our ongoing learnings and experience,' the company added.

There is a California law that allows police officers to issue citations to driverless vehicles, but it does not go into effect until the summer of 2026.

Until then, the robots and their big-tech overlords get a free pass for breaking all the laws, while the human drivers have to pay huge fines for messing up.
