The vast majority of armed crimes in America involve pistols, and anything larger than .45 ACP isn't super fun to carry or shoot out of a hand cannon (stupid recoil).
The slightly-smaller 9mm is the standard used in most semi-auto pistols these days, and while you can buy cheap Level IIIA plates that will protect you from a bad guy with a blaster, the metal door of your futuristic silver Batmobile is an added layer of protection that's cool as heck.
It ain't gonna stop most rifle rounds, but it'll stop that drive-by in Chiraq!
(Plus, for larger engagements, you should already be running a truck gun 😉)
And if you're still asking why anyone would want such a thing, go and ask all the motorists recently attacked by Hamas!
