The idea that technology will phase out the need for currency has been the dream of leftwing sci-fi writers for the past century, combining Marxist ideas of communist infrastructure with material advancement.
Consider Gene Roddenbery's Star Trek:
If it sounds great, it's because it's a religious claim: The idea that technology will help humanity overcome its demons and squabbles and usher us into a heaven of our own creation.
The problem?
The United States was built on the presumptions that 1) man is made in God's image and therefore has inherent, divine rights, and 2) that man's nature has been so corrupted that great safeguards must be formed to stop man's collective evil from destroying civilization.
The Christian faith, in other words, says "there is no one righteous, not even one" (Psalm 53:1-3, Psalm 5:9, Psalm 140:3, Psalm 10:7, Isaiah 59:7-8, Romans 3:10-12) because we have rebelled against God and are powerless to save ourselves from our sin.
The truest thing that humans can know, truer than anything we can perceive with our five senses, is the darkness that dwells in our own hearts. And yet the depths of that darkness remain a mystery:
'The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?' - Jeremiah 17:9
Despite what public school told you, people are not naturally good, and generic "niceness" is not the benchmark for righteousness.
While the Bible warns about sinful obsession with money (Ecclesiastes 5:10, Hebrews 13:5, 1 Timothy 6:10, Matthew 6:19-24), unless you can stop the evil in all of us - evil that manifests daily in horrific stories like this...
...you'll never be able to get rid of money, which creates a system to manage the exchange of goods in a fallen world filled with greed, selfishness, and covetousness.
The old-school communists knew human nature needed to be changed to get rid of money.
Why else do you think they tried so hard to create a "new Soviet man"?
If you know history, you know what happened when they thought they could change human nature, including our desire to exchange "capital," without God's help. You know what happened when they tried to prove God's statement that "there will always be poor people in the land" wrong (Deuteronomy 15:11, Matthew 26:11-13).

And yet Elon says it can be done with AI and robotics.
Modern technology, which sprung out of Christian civilization with Christian scientists at the helm, is reducing material poverty and suffering, and that's a blessing.
