Tudor Dixon was one of the losing "MAGA" candidates during the 2022 midterm election cycle, running against Ice Queen Whitmer for governor of Michigan.
The election wasn't particularly close and Dixon thinks she's figured out why.
In an interview with Donald Trump on her podcast, Dixon says that she was wrong and Trump was right. She should have changed her tone on abortion.
Here's the full interview with relevant quotes to follow:
I just want you to know that — and I'll tell my viewers — that you came to me and you said, ‘You got to talk differently about abortion.' And we could not pivot — we could not pivot in time. And it really - you were absolutely right, sir. And I hope that you are able to navigate that that issue in ‘24 and that we can win those women back because they are already putting out attack ads, and it is not a fair issue for them to attack on.
This is totally in line with Donald Trump's explanation early this year that all of his MAGA candidates who lost, lost because they were too strict on abortion.
Dixon, wishing she was governor, expresses her regret for not listening to Trump and being too extreme on abortion.
Here's what President Trump told Dixon:
"Yep, that's what happened to you," he told Dixon, speaking about attack ads on abortion. "And that's what happened to a lot of other people and didn't happen to me because, you know, there's a way of talking about it. They're the radical. They're the radicals and you have to explain. And I think exceptions are very important."
Half of this is really good advice. The Democrats are the radicals, obviously, with no restrictions ever agreed to on abortion. Showing that before pushing legislation is important to win over independents, as the failed amendment push in Ohio recently showed.
But Donald Trump is not socially conservative in general. He wants the pro-life vote, but he's so afraid of the Left that he moderates his tone on the abortion issue substantially.
He's unafraid of offending on any other issue, but when it comes to abortion he wants to talk only about the exceptions.
Will Trump's insistence on shying away from the abortion issue alienate social conservatives?
