Mayor Pete made the rounds this weekend to claim crime is down so let's school him, shall we?

Pete Buttigieg made the rounds on Sunday shows this weekend to spread the talking point that crime has gone down under Biden.

Here he is making the claim to Shannon Bream on Fox News:

Get ready to see this talking point repeated A LOT.

However, a detailed report from Washington Examiner shows the FBI has been misleading the public about crime statistics.

Why are we not surprised?

According to the Washington Examiner report, this began in 2021 when the FBI rolled out a new system called "NIBRS" for police departments to report crime statistics. Apparently, the system was such a mess and so impossible to properly update that most major cities simply declined to report their statistics to the FBI.

Here's a map of the agencies that declined to submit crime statistics. Notice anything?

This led the FBI to... simply make up their own numbers.

Here are just a few examples from the report:

  • In big cities, murder is still elevated โ€” up 23% since 2019 across all 70 cities tracked by the MCCA.

  • According to the FBI, robbery offenses declined 18% between 2019 and 2022, while the victim's survey suggests a 30% rise.

  • In Milwaukee, the FBI reported a 13% decrease in robberies, while the Milwaukee Police recorded a 7% increase

  • Nashville's own data tallied more than 6,900 aggravated assaults in 2023, but the FBI counted only 5,941

  • For Baltimore, the FBI reported 225 murders in 2023, but the city reported 262 โ€” FBI left out 37 murders.

Jesse Watters on Fox News covered this story back in April:

Another important factor in these numbers is that the majority of crimes are going unreported, especially in Democrat cities where the locals know the police won't do anything. In 2022, only 42% of violent crime victims and 33% of property crime victims bothered to report the crime to police.

In addition to citizens no longer reporting crimes, there is evidence that police are doing the same. An LA Times investigation found that between 2005 and 2012, the Los Angeles Police Department erased thousands of crimes, mostly violent assaults, by reclassifying them as lesser offenses or not capturing them at all. The fuzzy math artificially reduced the city's crime rate by 7%.

No matter how much the Democrats and media try to gaslight you, remember your eyes and ears are not deceiving you. Crime is skyrocketing, and they are lying to you about it.
