Take a break with this thread on the insane "Dean Gardens" mansion that was built in 1992 by a software tycoon before it almost sold to Michael Jackson and was then demolished by Tyler Perry

God tells us in no uncertain terms to not covet our neighbor's house, and quite frankly I don't think you'll have any problem at all not coveting Dean Gardens, the splendidly hideous Atlanta mansion built thirty years ago, abandoned shortly thereafter, and demolished in 2014 by (checks notes)...Tyler Perry?

First, a little background:

Dean Gardens was one of the largest homes in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia. At the time of its completion in 1992, the 32,000 square foot, 15 bedroom house was the largest in Atlanta. The former owner, Larry Dean, who made his fortune in software, spent $30 million on its construction, plus $1.5 million a year on its upkeep.

The 58-acre property then became a boondoggle of failed construction efforts, wasted resources and a chain of owners.

Oof. Speaking to the New York Times, one family member described the place, after its abandonment by the Dean family, as "almost like a mausoleum sitting here with nobody using it." That's grim and depressing.

The house itself wasn't grim or depressing, however. On the contrary, it was beautiful—so beautiful that it looks like it could've melted the skin and muscles off of your skull like the Nazi at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Looks like a beautiful home! Not really, it looks rather awful. What a waste.
