It has just been announced that flag football will officially become an Olympic sport in 2028. Yes, that's football with flags. No tackling; just flags.
The best thing about this announcement is that we'll get Olympic baseball back. The worst thing is that we'll be forced to watch people play football without pads and with almost zero contact. It's gonna be brutal.
Flag football and baseball-softball could put NFL and MLB players on the Olympic stage in five years' time.
Now, if I'd only read this part of the announcement I'd be pretty stoked. Unfortunately, they went on,
"The NFL is committed to working together to strengthen flag football's place in the Olympic movement long term," the league's commissioner, Roger Goodell, said in a statement.
Yeah, we're not talking football here, folks; we're talking flag football. Flippin' flag football!

To be honest, an Olympic flag football team just sounds like something you'd see on South Park or Saturday Night Live, not in real life. But yet here we are adding flag football to the Olympics.
Other sports added to the 2028 games include cricket, baseball-softball, lacrosse, and squash, a four-walled racquet-and-ball game.
All five were voted in as a single package, with two "no" votes from about 90 IOC members in the room.
Looking forward to a few of those, I'm just a little confused on the flag football issue.
If we really think it through, though, this flag football Olympic event probably won't exist but for the one time in 2028. Unless it's somehow super popular, which I doubt.
