UPDATE: Was all this a hoax? Police no longer believe he was abducted. From Fox 35:
'Primarily, at this time, there is no evidence to indicate that he was taken by 4 Hispanic men in a light-colored van. It is possible that he left the incident location on a black bicycle with a red and grey tent, which he purchased at Walmart on SW 19th Avenue Road, in Ocala,' MCSO said.
Original report:
According to ABC 20, 17-year-old Speight of Dunnellon was driving in his work truck (his family owns Simple Life Farms, a U-pick blueberry farm) near the 12800 block of SW Highway 484 on Thursday night when he texted his family and said he had been injured by "four Hispanic men" who shot him.
Police located his vehicle, but Speight was nowhere to be found. A bullet hole was found in the truck.
Pictures of the vehicle:
Officers spent all night searching the area with a helicopter (video here) and K-9 dogs.
Authorities believe he was injured (they did not say if blood or other evidence at the scene confirms this) and are searching for a "light-colored van." A doctored photo claiming Speight was wearing a MAGA hat is also making the rounds: That detail has not been confirmed.
Speight is also actively involved in the SouthEast Little Britches Rodeo Association, which posted a prayer for him on social media.
A $1,000 reward has been offered for any information that helps locate Speight.
