Florida man goes on $2-million excavator rampage through city, parks “in” Walmart, runs through store with machete
· Sep 13, 2023 · NottheBee.com

Jesse Smith hotwired an excavator on Monday and took it on a destructive joyride through Gainsville, Florida, causing an estimated $2 million in damage.

Here‘s the rundown of all the things Smith destroyed:

Four buildings at the Storage Depot of Gainesville, fences, a utility pole, and a loading dock.

In the end, Smith decided he needed to make a quick run to Walmart to pick up a few things.

So he parked his excavator in, and I do mean in, the Automotive department.

Then he hopped out and ran inside wielding a machete just in case those Walmart associates gave him any trouble.

You know the type of associate I'm talking about: the guy that says "Let me go see if we have any of those in the back," then takes two laps around the store before coming back to say, "Nope, we're all out."

Sure you are, pal. Sure you are.

When officers confronted Smith, he dropped the machete and then started fighting them hand-to-hand when they tried to restrain him.

Smith is being charged with grand theft, property damage, resisting an officer, and trespassing.

No word on whether that Walmart associate ever came back to let him know his items were out of stock.
