David T. Hines, 29, of Miami, was arrested and charged last week with bank fraud, making false statements to a financial institution and engaging in transactions in unlawful proceeds.

Hines falsely applied for approximately $13.5 million in Paycheck Protection Program loans on behalf of different companies. He then decided to have a "treat yo self" day and purchased a Lamborghini for $318,497, jewelry and clothing expenditures as well as reservations at high-end Miami Beach hotels such as the Fontainebleau and Setai.

"Hines' false claims have been part of a string of scams exploiting the Payroll Protection Program due to the agency not checking the legitimacy of claims in applications", the Miami Herald reported. After Hines was approved by the PPP, Bank of America began depositing the massive amounts of money into his accounts. On May 18, Hines wired $314,497 to Lamborghini Miami in North Miami Beach.
