Let's check in on that British freedom of speech, shall we, lads?
Former soccer star Joey Barton was found guilty of offensive hAte sPeeCh for saying what your MAGA uncle would say during any given sportscast.
Here's the details from The Telegraph.
In a post on X following a televised FA Cup tie in January 2024 between Crystal Palace and Everton he branded Ward and Aluko the 'Fred and Rose West of football commentary'. He went on to superimpose the faces of the two women onto a photograph of the serial murderers.
Barton also tweeted Aluko was in the 'Joseph Stalin/Pol Pot category' and that she had 'murdered hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of football fans' ears'. He also wrote: 'Only there to tick boxes. DEI is a load of s — . Affirmative action. All off the back of the BLM/George Floyd nonsense.'
So, he hates some soccer announcers, thinks they're the worst ever, and jokes that they are like serial killers and mass murders to people's ears.
(I hope Britain never finds out about what SEC fans think of Beth Mowins because we're talking mass incarceration for that one.)
The real crime is pointing out that, in his opinion, the women were DEI hires.
Noticing such things and thinking such thoughts is LITERALLY AGAINST THE LAW IN BRITAIN.
Barton also appeared to imply (he says jokingly) that commentator Jeremy Vine might have something to do with Epstein.
In his closing speech to the jury of seven men and five women, prosecutor Peter Wright KC said Barton had crossed the line 'by some considerable margin' beyond what was tolerable in society.
He said: 'Mr Barton is not the victim here. He is not the free speech crusader that he would like to paint himself to be. He is not some martyr to be sacrificed on the altar of political correctness.
'He is just simply an undiluted, unapologetic bully. A little bully who takes pleasure sitting there with his phone in his hand and then posting these slurs.'
Mean words now mean prison sentences in the United Kingdom. The sentencing is scheduled for December 8th.
