This is the kind of man you blue cities choose as leaders??
Let me repeat what the NYT is saying.
The previous mayor of New York City, the one who wanted to lock everyone up in their homes and force a vax jab with burgers and fries as incentive, is going to "separate" from his wife, without divorcing, so they can date other people while still living under one roof.
The term "cuckold" used to be an insult! The term refers to the female cuckoo bird's habit of changing mates and leaving eggs in other birds' nests.
Now we've got the former leader of America's largest city – the name synonymous with civilization itself in the 20th century! – casually adopting the title with a proud puff piece in The New York Times.
It began with an offhand remark: "Why aren't you lovey-dovey anymore?" Mr. de Blasio, the former New York City mayor, asked, according to Ms. [Chirlane] McCray, his wife.
It moved quickly, both said, into the sort of urgently searching dialogue that had been necessary for years but avoided until that moment: a full accounting of their relationship, what they wanted, what they were not getting.
When you promise to support your spouse "until death do you part," we in modern America really mean "until we're bored with each other or hit the smallest roadblock." No-fault divorce really destroyed this nation, didn't it?
They are not planning to divorce, they said, but will date other people. They will continue to share the Park Slope townhouse where they raised their two children, now in their 20s — the vinyl-sided hub of a thoroughly modern political family whose mixed-race symbolism helped send a spindly progressive long shot to City Hall.
It's a tale as old as time: Empty nesters, realizing their place in life and missing shared vision, decide it's time for a new adventure without one another, forsaking their vows in the pursuit of hell, or "self-discovery" as we call it these days.
Some reactions:
If our leaders are like this, how rotten is our nation from the top to the bottom?
