Here's a shocker for you: A gay couple who run the largest LGBTQ news site, Pink News, have been accused by 33 employees of sexual abuse and misogyny in the workplace.
Dr. Anthony James and his "partner," Benjamin Cohen, are accused of behaving inappropriately with both men and women at their company. James is documented as kissing and inappropriately touching a younger male employee who was too intoxicated to give consent at a company party.
A former PinkNews staff member, who the BBC is calling Gary, said Dr. James had led the junior colleague behind a tree. 'Anthony was just forcing himself on somebody who wasn't able to make that decision for themselves because of how intoxicated they were,' he said.
Other employees helped the young man get out of the situation and get a taxi home.
But they said they were too afraid to say anything.
It's the CEO's husband, what are you going to do? Lose your job?
Another male employee, the BBC is calling Damien, was approached by the CEO, Benjamin Cohen:
'Ben was extremely drunk, to the point he fell off his chair, and then asked me out of earshot of my other colleagues whether I wanted to go back to his […] because Anthony, his husband, wasn't there,' Damien said.
'He said something along the lines of "Anthony is always getting with other men", and the suggestion was that we would do something sexually. I was extremely uncomfortable.'
A former employee went on record about his experiences:
During a Christmas party, [Stephen] Kyriacou said, Mr. Cohen had slapped him on the bottom in front of everyone else.
'I just shut down for a minute. I didn't know what to say. I was in shock. I remember turning to my friends and saying, "What the hell just happened?'"
While female employees were not approached sexually by the couple, they did not go without harassment. The two men repeatedly cornered women and asked them to be surrogates for their children.
They say that often the request was delivered as a joke, but that it had made people feel 'awkward and uncomfortable'.
One anonymous staff member called it 'creepy and sleazy', while another called it 'part and parcel' of how 'misogynistic' PinkNews was.
Neither of the men provided a statement about the situation other than to say the allegations were false.
And there have been some ramifications of the allegations as well. Dr. James lost his appointment to the British National Health System while the accusations are being investigated.
The sad part is that the BBC reported all of this as if it were shocking news, but it really shouldn't be.
If someone's entire identity is wrapped up in sex, is it any wonder that sex would define every relationship in his life?
