What caused Gavin Newsom to veto that bill that would allow California to take kids away from “non-affirming” parents?

A Democrat who takes a stand against the transgender machine is one who is risking potential political suicide. There has to be a big payoff for them to be willing to do so.

So what, exactly, do you think the payoff is here?

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday vetoed a bill that would have asked judges presiding over custody battles to take into consideration a parent's support for their child's gender identity — a culture war flashpoint that has drawn vocal criticism from the right.

Assembly Bill 957 would have adjusted California law to instruct judges to consider, among other factors, a parent's affirmation of a child's gender identity or expression when determining custody or visitation rights.

Hmm. Now why would a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat like Gavin Newsom - especially one as unbelievably radical and far-left as "metrosexual Marx" Newsom - do something like this?

Could it be maybe he's hedging his bets that this particular bill is (a) enough of a lightning rod that it could be easily used against him in a possible presidential campaign, while being (b) obscure enough that vetoing it won't cause too many political headaches among Democrats both in California and nationwide?

I dunno! Maybe, just maybe. Newsom himself tried to paper over the whole thing by voicing support for "transgender rights" in California while at the same time offering a ham-fisted legal excuse for his veto:

"I urge caution when the executive and legislative branches of state government attempt to dictate — in prescriptive terms that single out one characteristic — legal standards for the judicial branch to apply."

Uh huh.

It's almost like he's saving face on something to make it seem like he's being moderate while also knowing he's not putting the extreme bill his party passed in jeopardy.

Good luck on your 2024 campaign, Gavin. Uh, I mean, good luck on, you know, whatever it is you're doing over the next year.
