A Georgia man shot himself and three others with one bullet on accident by fumbling with his handgun.
Michael Walton took his handgun to the deli section of a Walmart in Lovejoy, GA, but rather than keeping it safely in a holster, he put it in his waistband. While he was at the store, the gun fell down the leg of his pants.
Walton grabbed for it, and that's when the gun went off.
Sgt. Akeem Turnbull with Lovejoy Police put it this way:
"The gun was in his waistband not holstered and loaded. The gun slipped down his leg, he attempted to grab it, and was somehow manipulating the weapon and discharged the firearm."
While Walton fumbled with the wayward weapon, it discharged and struck him in the leg.
BUT the bullet did not stop there.
It ricocheted after going through Walton's leg and struck three more people in the legs.
Turnbull explained,
"One of the victims also got hit in the leg. The other one got hit in the back of the leg and the other one got some bruising. All of them were towards the lower portions of the bodies."
Yeesh.
The gunshot sparked panic inside the store, as people started running toward the exits.
"I got into a panic and I started rolling my cart towards the food court. Another Walmart worker came up to me and said there is blood everywhere down there,"
One woman told CBS46 News.
None of the injuries were life threatening, and all of the wounded patrons received medical attention.
Walton faces reckless conduct charges.
Gun safety is important, folks. Holster that sucker properly.
