Flora Mae White was born on Dec. 12, 1915, sharing the same exact birthday as Frank Sinatra. While Sinatra was dazzling fans in the Golden Age of Hollywood, White spent the entirety of her life in Georgia.
This week, she celebrated her 108th birthday surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
White said that celebrating this birthday with her family ...
... made me feel good. I was glad to have family around, I just missed my brothers and sisters.
White's family were farmers in the early 1900s, but when she was only 12, her mother passed away and she got a job at a canning factory to help support her five younger siblings.
White said that she's faced many hard times in her long life, but the Lord has blessed her and the good times always outweighed the bad.
Flora Mae's granddaughter, Cherri Lavender, said of her grandmother,
I've never known anyone her age, 108, and I think that she has reached tremendous milestones. She has always been a giver; she's always been the one that you go to, and she was always the shortest one but the feistiest one.
As for her secret to a long life well-lived, Flora Mae White said she lives by the Golden Rule,
Treat people right, and you'll live a long time. You have to give up your right to live, and I cried many days. Sometimes I was wrong, and sometimes I was right, but I've lived a good, blessed life.
