The Weeknd has officially (and statistically) been recognized as the most popular artist on the planet by the folks at Guinness World Records, whose data shows that his popularity is simply unmatched in the music industry. According to Guinness, "no one else even comes close."
The falsetto crooner just broke two new records on Spotify, the first being most monthly listeners in Spotify's history (over 111 million!), and the second for being the first artist ever to breach the 100-million monthly listeners mark.
More stats from Guinness:
The Weeknd currently has almost 30 million more monthly listeners than second-placed Miley Cyrus (82.4 million).
He is also comfortably ahead of Shakira (81.6 million), Ariana Grande (80.6 million), Taylor Swift (80.2 million), Rihanna (78.5 million), and his closest male challenger, Ed Sheeran (77.5 million).
The Weeknd also recently joined Michael Jackson as the only artist with multiple No. 1 songs from three of his albums, thanks to his "Die For You (Remix)" with Ariana Grande — his latest No. 1 smash hit.
His song "Blinding Lights" from his album After Hours is the most streamed track on Spotify ever, with over 3.4 billion streams as of last month. It's also the longest charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 of all time with a total of 90 weeks on the chart.
