I'll admit to being a bit competitive at times.
But not this competitive:

A Maui man who admitted to killing a beloved pet pig and then lying about it to win a hunting contest will be spending a night in jail ...
The 19-year-old [Jayden Jarnesky-Magana] pleaded no contest to charges of animal cruelty, theft and criminal property damage in the killing of Eddie the pig.
"Eddie the Pig."

Jarnesky-Magana was reportedly taking part in a "feral pig hunting contest" in the town of Makawao. The cash prize was $1,000.
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service says that feral pigs on Hawaii are "extremely destructive." They can easily destroy native plants and local infrastructure. It's no wonder someone's willing to pony up a cool G to have folks kill them.
Of course, the contest wasn't supposed to include a local pet pig — but the bozos who kidnapped and killed Eddie didn't care about that.
Eddie the Pig was reportedly a sort of mascot for the local humane rescue, Kitty Charm Farm. He was a "treasured pet, a therapy pet to many," owner Sarah Haynes told the court.
She reportedly witnessed "pictures of Eddie gutted and hung from a tree in a homemade rap music video" presumably made by the pig's kidnappers, though it could've technically been someone else.

Of course, the perp will only spend one night in jail. But Circuit Court Judge Kirstin Hamman expressed hope that it will teach him a lesson:
I think that's appropriate. That will teach you, hopefully deter you from engaging in any further criminal activity. And I think it sends the proper message regarding the nature of the crime that was committed.
He's learned his lesson, at least until the next hunting contest!
