Okay, this is classic right here and everyone who finds themselves yelling at the referees during their kids' sporting events needs to pay attention.
This particular video is out of Milwaukee, where fans were getting a little out of hand toward the end of a basketball game between two high schools.
The announcer, from his seat at the scorer's table, took the opportunity to give the fans a little piece of his mind.
Here's what he had to say:
I would like to take this opportunity to remind all fans — and I should have done this a lot earlier — shut up. WIAA is always looking for officials and since you do such a good job from the stands, get on the floor, wear a striped shirt and do it yourselves.
Got that?
If you're so unimpressed with the refereeing at a high school game, then go ahead and become a referee yourself.
It's a tough job, and you make it all the more difficult with your inadvertent screams from the bleachers.
You have no idea how difficult it is to put on those stripes, and maybe it would be a nice little lesson you'd learn if you put that whistle around your neck and tried it yourself.
Some great news for the announcer:
[T]he National Association of Sports Officials will give a "Great Call Award" to the announcer.
Good.
He deserves it.
Dude stood up for what he believes in and received a round of applause from the crowd.
We need more people like this.
I'm just gonna leave this here for you rowdy individuals:
The spokesperson added that WIAA recognizes and promotes the five basic tenets of sportsmanship, including:
1) Show respect for self and others at all times
2) Show respect for the officials
3) Know, understand and appreciate the rules of the contest
4) Maintain self-control at all times
5) Recognize and appreciate skill in performance regardless of team affiliation
