Boys are starting to turn against the system that says masculinity is evil? Who could have guessed??
A popular narrative suggests young people are liberal and getting more liberal. Thus, social media buzzed when a chart surfaced in spring that seemed to suggest 12th-grade boys had become overwhelmingly conservative. …
But … Twelfth-grade boys are nearly twice as likely to identify as conservative versus liberal, according to a respected federal survey of American youth.
It's true. The survey in question is the Monitoring the Future poll. Administered by the University of Michigan since 1975, the survey tracks "changes in the beliefs, attitudes, and behavior of young people in the United States."
Among its most recent discoveries is that the number of high school boys identifying as conservative is skyrocketing at the fastest rate since the survey began:
Notably, girls are experiencing a somewhat-similar shift in liberal identification:
…although ultimately these numbers aren't too surprising. Modern education is dominated by progressive ideology, and that ideology generally preaches two very direct assertions: Girls are good and boys are bad. This is one of the main points of modern American progressive orthodoxy.
You can't exactly blame girls, then, for embracing a belief system that tells them they're the greatest, best, specialist and most admirable people in the world, and you can't blame boys for rejecting the same system that tells them they're hot garbage.
Of course, it's still high school. And so peer pressure to conform, to blend in, and to be seen with your peers is at present very much a thing:
High school seniors, boys and girls alike, are [still] more likely to claim no political identity than to throw in with either liberals or conservatives.
Hey, have some fun kids before you have to take clown world on your shoulders.
