An insane story out of Minnesota for you:

Reduxx has learned that a trans-identified male high school student has been quietly participating in girls sports, earning accolades intended for young female athletes. Charlie Rothenberger, who now goes by 'Marissa,' was transitioned by his parents at an extremely early age and is now drawing ire from his female teammates as more are becoming aware that he is biologically male.

Evidently Rothenberger "has participated in girls sports from an early age and has never publicly stated he identifies as transgender."

According to documents obtained by Reduxx, his mother Heather "applied to the Hennepin County District Court to alter his birth certificate shortly after his 9th birthday":

The petition was approved, and Rothenberger was issued a new birth certificate showing that he was born 'female' and altering his name from 'Charlie Dean' to 'Marissa.' Minnesota is one of many states where altered birth certificates do not need to signify that the original document was altered.

You do have to marvel that it wasn't more obvious that this fellow was, you know, a fellow. The young man has some absolute mustard on those pitches:

But I suppose if you dress a boy up as a girl well enough, and you've been doing it since he was maybe just a toddler, it can be really hard to tell.

And most importantly, when the political environment will severely punish anyone who speaks out about this sort of thing — well, I guess you might just decide to keep your mouth shut, to be safe.

Still, people are starting to speak out. One girl, for instance, told Reduxx that for years she believed Rothenberger was "simply just an 'awkward' girl":

'We were never really that close because I never had anything in common with him. I never thought he was a boy, but after finding out he was a boy and then looking back on a lot of things I wouldn't have looked at before, [it] definitely shows he is a boy, and I felt dumb for missing the clues,' she told Reduxx.

It's an easy thing to miss, of course, when so much of the culture demands that you miss it — that you ignore it, keep quiet, don't ask questions, and let the boy take trophies and athletic achievements from girls.

But the girls are getting fed up. The anonymous player told Reduxx that Rothenberger's performance is "completely unreal," and that he is able to do "so much more" than "girls who train with the exact same coaches," and that he "took opportunities away from girls who deserved them most."

The Independent Council On Women's Sport (ICONS), meanwhile, is "raising the alarm about a concerning phenomenon involving a new wave of male athletes who were socially and medically transitioned as young boys" and who can take part in women's and girl's sports essentially undetected.

One leader with ICONS put it best:

It makes these young girls learn early in life that it is acceptable for them to be abused and taken advantage of by boys so long as everyone looks the other way and it's hidden to a certain level of satisfaction.

Glad to see folks are waking up on this. Let's hope it continues.
