Remember that guy who went on the "least-successful shooting spree of all time"? Yeah, he got 143 years in prison.

Remember Eugene Robertson, the Colorado man who tried to pay for his food with meth at a Burger King, and when denied, he went on the least successful shooting spree in history.

Literally, no one hit anybody, including the cops who shot at Robertson.

I ended that article by suggesting that in Colorado, Robertson would likely get off with a wrist slap, if that.

Boy, howdy!

I've never been so wrong in my life.

Robertson will not only see jail time for being a terrible shot, but he will never see the light of day again.

The worst shot in history was sentenced to 143 years in prison.

143 years!

But hey, it could have been 400 years!

A jury found Robertson guilty of 17 crimes, including eight counts of attempted murder. The sentences for many of the crimes were stacked on top of each other, leading to an extended sentence. Robertson, 40, had faced a maximum sentence of more than 400 years when he was sentenced on Aug. 9.

It's probably wise to get the crazy guy off the streets before he actually does hurt someone, but that sentence is just nuts!

'We consider this 143-year sentence justice for the multiple victims he put in fear that night. Jurors recognized the severity of the crimes this defendant committed. We believe the judge imposed an appropriate sentence,' said Eric Ross, a spokesperson for 18th Judicial District Attorney John Kellner, on Friday.

At the risk of sounding facetious, it's too bad for Robertson that he didn't actually hit someone. The maximum penalty for second-degree assault with a deadly weapon is only 16 years, and second-degree murder is only 48 years.

Apparently in Colorado, the fear of a gun carries a much harsher penalty than being shot by that gun.
