I own a company. If you want a job, get those pronouns out of your bio.

Consider this a public service announcement meant to benefit everyone, but primarily those in the late stages of adolescence and early stages of adulthood. If you want a job, if you want a chance at a serious career where you can make serious income through advancement, please heed these seven words:

Get the pronouns out of your bio.

I understand you're probably going to think that's an attack on you or your friends - that group you are unwisely attempting to placate and coddle. I know that you will see me as some right-wing radical with no appreciation of the "nuances" of gender ideology, or the "trauma" experienced by the gender non-conforming, or the "vulnerability" that it takes to be your true self. Frankly, I just don't care what you think or how you see me.

What I do care about is hiring respectable, good employees that will help my business succeed.

And though your kind has made extraordinary progress in convincing far too many insecure adults (the ones who for some sad reason are desperate to be considered hip by the same generation that concocted the idiocy of "safe spaces" and "gap years") that all the he/him, she/her, they/them nonsense is sophisticated, rest assured it is not.

It's pretentious, infantile, puerile, and off-putting to potential employers.

Not just to me, one solitary business owner. No, you look ridiculous to plenty of my fellow company owners as well.

Let me see if I can help you here. People whose businesses succeed - the ones you want to hire you - have learned a few things about who to hire. Smart businessmen and women who have made the decision to absorb the costs of bringing on a new employee - salary, benefits, regulations - are going to make sure they are getting responsible, reasonable people. We want people who are willing to work hard and not cause drama. If you're pretentious enough to announce your pronouns on your social media, that'll be a hard pass from me and several others I know.

But don't take my word for it alone.

Now, if you think you know better than me about this, by all means, carry on. Perhaps you think, "Well I wouldn't want to work for a bigot, anyway." Fair enough. That tells me all I need to know about your character as well, and honestly, you keeping those pronouns prominently displayed on your social media accounts makes it easier to weed you out. It's no skin off my nose, really.

But I'm not lying. Your willful participation in this infantile, "we don't have any real problems in our lives, so we have to invent them" movement (1) is advertised by your pronoun posting, and (2) is a giant turn-off to most potential employers who don't want to hire prima-donnas who just aren't worth the high-maintenance stress.

And mom and dad, if you're reading this, just know that the massive financial investment you've made sending your kid to a university to get a degree that makes him marketable in the workforce has a good chance of being wasted if he can't stop conforming to the stupidity of the age.
