These people are so desperate to see the NIH continue to waste our money that they're willing to side with Hitler when it comes to funding science.
No joke: That's the argument.

To defund the NIH would "destroy the world-class institutions that make America great, to coin a phrase."
And I'm not kidding, the very next line is, "Even Hitler did not trash German science."
Hitler did seek to turn science to his own ends, to promote research on eugenics, new technologies for blitzkrieg war, sick medical experiments, and more efficient ways for the mass killing of Jews. Yet civilian German science, long a mark of German pride, also thrived.
See? Even Hitler wasn't as bad as Trump! 😂🙄
During the Nazi era, German scientists and engineers invented the first electron microscope, industrial-scale production of artificial fiber, pharmaceuticals such as advanced sulfa drugs, artificial rubber, and much more.
Sure, Hitler conducted a bunch of mad science experiments that are the stuff of horror stories, but science still thrived! It was a golden age, unlike 2025, when evil Trump is cutting costs to stop America's $36 trillion in debt from ballooning even further.
The author goes on to call Trump "even more nihilist than Hitler" and then argues more for NIH not being defunded.
No really, that's a verbatim quote!
I'm gonna drop this here so you can get a little preview of what's to come once NIH starts to be gutted:
Heather Cox Richardson reported that eight Florida research universities will lose $165 million. Six in Ohio will lose $194 million; and four in Missouri will lose $212 million. And that doesn't count the cost of future lost grants that universities will lack the capacity to apply for.
So, in summary, Hitler would never cut funding to science, especially if that research helps trans the kids or leaks a coronavirus that you can use to control your population using fascistic policies.
