Ilhan Omar tried responding to a fake news story spread by the Right but ended up insulting all of America in the process

A few weeks ago, some right-wing accounts showed they are on track to become the new CNN when they reported that Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was teaching illegals to avoid police.

Omar noted that she wasn't even at the workshop in the video, nor was she teaching illegals to (further) break the laws of the nation. She was merely responding to a question about informing people about their rights.

But in right-wing land, fellow politicians were calling for Omar to be deported based on the out-of-context, misleading clip.

Like Obi-wan Kenobi, Omar had the high ground.

And yet, while being interviewed by Mehdi Hasan for his podcast Mehdi Unfiltered, Omar couldn't help but go too far.

Watch:

Hasan: 'Now you have a Republican colleague, dare I say, in the House, saying to deport an American citizen - and American lawmaker, elected representative. How do you deal with that?'

Omar: 'These people are just idiots. I'm at the point where its become hard to have an intellectual debate with any of these people because the level of stupidity they are displaying every single day is frankly embarrassing, not just in Congress, but as Americans. And the fact that these people are allowed, you know, to say the most ridiculous things, tells you that uh, the dumbing down of the United States has arrived, because how else could we get a Trump presidency again?'

Omar starts by talking specifically here about Rep. Brandon Gill and other Republicans who are calling for her deportation over a fake news story.

But she didn't stop there. Instead, she widened it to ALL of America by asking how Trump could have possibly been elected again.

She also hinted at her disdain toward free speech by saying people 'are allowed ... to say the most ridiculous things."

One more thing before I go.

Unfortunately, that valid criticism is being drowned in the newsfeed by people who are responding to Omar's insults by ... [checks notes] ... insulting Somalia.

I appreciate Matt, but BRUH.

It's true that Somalia has a low general IQ rate. Islamism, poor education, and a starvation diet are just a few of the factors that hurt Somalians. They aren't any less valuable or human than you or me because of it, but it is the reality.

The logic is that Omar isn't really American, just like many of her Somali voters in Minnesota aren't assimilated Americans.

But now the media has a new attack angle. Because this entire story started on the basis of a right-wing lie, and ended with the argument "your country is dumber than my country," the media can ignore Omar's misstep where she called us all idiots.

To the conservative commentator class: Omar is bad enough without having to invent new attack angles. Just report what the clowns say and walk away!
