Squad member Ilhan Omar of Minnesota was just arrested in DC for blocking traffic at the Supreme Court in an abortion protest.

Omar's staff confirmed her arrest Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Omar's office said the Congresswoman would be participating in an event at the United States Supreme Court Tuesday to protest the overturn of Roe v. Wade.

Omar was expected to attend the event with other lawmakers, including the following Democrats:

  • Rep. Jackie Speier (D-California)
  • Rep. Cori Bush (D-Missouri)
  • Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-New York)
  • Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-California)
  • Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-Pennsylvania)

No word on if all of the lawmakers who attended the event were arrested.

Although U.S. Capitol Police did not release the names, they say a total of 34 people, including 16 members of Congress, were arrested for blocking First Street Northeast.

Here was Ilhan with other Dems in front of SCOTUS earlier:

AOC was escorted away from the Court, but wasn't reportedly arrested, so I'm not sure what Ilhan did to get the extra penalty but I guess we'll find out!

UPDATE: 2:49 p.m.:

Another video showing AOC being escorted away by police also reportedly shows Ilhan Omar walking away in handcuffs.

AOC's social team confirmed that she was arrested as well, and not just briefly detained.

UPDATE: 3:36 p.m.:

Several outlets noticed that Omar was also pretending to be handcuffed for the cameras (catch the very end of the video where she raises an arm).

Fox News also reported that Capitol Police gave three warnings about blocking traffic before arresting the protesters.
