Back in July, Secretary Sean Duffy issued a ban on using federal Department of Transportation traffic safety funds to make political statements, including painting rainbow crosswalks to virtue signal instead of keeping people safe.

Houston Public Media reports that the Houston city council is operating in direct defiance of that order.

How? Well, the city's BOOST project, overseen by its METRO public utility provider, is repaving several roads with the explicit statement that it will repaint rainbow crosswalks in Montrose that were removed due to construction.

METRO's BOOST project, which included repaving along the Westheimer Road corridor, is utilizing federal funding.

That's right!

Construction that used our federal tax dollars is being used to force LGBTQ Pride on Houstonians, while simultaneously making the roads less safe.

‘The rainbow crosswalk striping at Westheimer and Taft, which was temporarily removed while METRO conducted road repairs as part of our BOOST project, will be restored as the city continues to review recent federal guidance,' Anna Carpenter, communications director at METRO, said in a statement. ‘The temporary white striping was applied to ensure pedestrian safety while the repairs were being carried out. METRO will continue to follow the City's direction and remains committed to prioritizing safety, reliability, and accessibility for all road users.'

While the city council was not all on-board with picking a fight with the Trump administration, member Abbie Kamin said she would paint the rainbow crosswalks herself if the federal government had a problem with them spending the nation's taxpayer money to push LGBTQ agendas.

‘In the midst of a government shutdown, growing inflation, and all of the chaos that has ensued under the Trump Administration, if this is what the federal government is going to spend time on, that raises serious questions about how capable federal operations are right now,' Kamin said in an interview on Wednesday.

She's all but begging Trump's U.S. attorneys to come after her for misappropriation of funds.
