Someone tell Dave Ramsey he's totally right (again).
It turns out that your grandparents' pre-modern ideas about married husbands and wives sharing a bank account and all of their finances were totally correct.
This is actually a REALLY interesting study ๐
The feminists are NOT going to be happy about this finding.
The study randomly assigned newlywed couples joint bank accounts and separate bank accounts and found that couples who shared their finances were happier.
These were random assignments. It's NOT that couples who share their finances are also the type of couples predisposed to be happier. It clearly shows that sharing an account is a major factor in their happiness.
Here's a link to the abstract.
Here's a tweet thread from the author of the article explaining the findings:
Most couples reported feeling less happy in their marriages BUT if the couple shared a bank account then they generally became happier as a couple.
This STRONGLY suggests that being on the same page financially is VITAL to a happy marriage.
Olson explains the methods used to make sure this study was done appropriately and accurately and explains the hypotheses as to WHY couples with shared finances were happier.
Listen to your elders! Listen to Dave Ramsey!
Husband and wife, this is one of the secrets to a happy marriage!
