After 5 years of wondering what the heck was going on with the pipe bombs planted on January 5th, 2021 in DC, we're finally starting to get answers.
From The Hill:
After initially denying involvement, Brian Cole Jr. told investigators after his arrest that he became 'bewildered' by claims the 2020 election had been stolen from President Trump and believed someone needed to 'speak up' on behalf of people who thought the allegations of election fraud were true, according to a Justice Department memo.
This guy doesn't seem too coherent.
He thought the election fraud claims were "bewildering," but he also wanted to speak up and represent all those who bought into Trump's claims.
In the end, Cole claims that he's neither a Republican nor a Democrat.
Cole explained that 'something just snapped' after 'watching everything, just everything getting worse,' prosecutors said, and he targeted the political parties because they were 'in charge.' He denied targeting Congress or the Jan. 6, 2021, joint session where the electoral votes of the 2020 presidential election were set to be certified.
'I really don't like either party at this point,' Cole said, according to the memo.
(I guess there really is such a thing as a "radical moderate" after all.)
This guy hated both parties so much he planned to blow up both of their headquarters?
The alleged perpetrator actually said he was glad the bombs didn't go off.
When the bombs didn't go off, Cole said he was 'pretty relieved,' because he had not wished to kill anyone, the memo says.
But prosecutors argued 'it was luck, not lack of effort,' that the devices remained intact.
The worst terrorist I've ever heard of!

Cole admitted that the bombs were supposed to go off 60 minutes after he set them, meaning they would have gone off in the middle of the night before January 6th, and in his mind there wouldn't have been any large crowds nearby.
He has been living in relative anonymity for nearly 5 years since the failed attack.
Cole was hit with counts of transporting an explosive device in interstate commerce and attempted malicious destruction by means of explosive materials following his Dec. 4 arrest, after government officials described an 'aha moment' that led to a breakthrough in their nearly five-year investigation.
The first count carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, while the second count carries a five-year minimum sentence and up to 20 years.
Five years on and we finally get an "official narrative" for January 5th and 6th.
