Is it too much to ask that the President of the United States toss up a "spoiler warning" before he goes and leaks major details about this sort of thing?
President Biden said Monday that former President Carter, who is in hospice care, has asked him to deliver his eulogy when he dies.
"I spent time with Jimmy Carter, and it's finally caught up with him, but they found a way to keep him going for a lot longer than they anticipated because they found a breakthrough," Biden said at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser.
"He asked me to do his eulogy," he added.
Everybody at that fundraiser like:
Jimmy Carter is a former Democratic president. Joe Biden is the current Democratic president.
(But that said, it's gonna be really awkward if this is another Joe Biden lie!)
It's considered somewhat bad form to reveal you're going to eulogize someone who is not, in fact, dead yet.
And to his credit Biden appeared to remember this, albeit a few seconds too late:
The president then appeared to catch himself for sharing the information, saying, "Excuse me, I shouldn't say that."
