As she fielded questions at a House Intelligence Committee hearing on Thursday about global threats to the United States, National Intelligence Director Avril Haines made sure to stress that American intel agencies need to focus more intensely on "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" (DEI) within their ranks – i.e. the need for the American intelligence community to hire more minorities and women based on their race and gender.

Because that's precisely what we should be focused on right now as the US continues to tumble and stumble left and right on the world stage.

Rep. André Carson (D-IN) questioned Haines about her efforts to "improve diversity" in her workforces. He asked:

"What are your organizations doing to improve diversity when it comes to recruiting and retaining your workforces?" Carson asked Haines and the other panelists. "Does the IC need to devote more resources to professional development? How do you all plan on tackling those very apparent issues?"

Haines responded quickly, "I think there is no question that we have to do better on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility," adding that her recent budget requests asked for more funding to carry out "more intense efforts" to hire more people of color into US intelligence agencies.

"I think you'll see in our budget requests and our proposals in all of the work that we're doing that … we see this as an area that we need to focus more intense resources and efforts," Haines said.

It feels important to state here that according to the DNI's website, Avril Haines' job as the head of the agency is "overseeing and directing the implementation of the National Intelligence Program and acting as the principal advisor to the President, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council for intelligence matters related to national security."

That's a very big and exceedingly important job.
