No joke, that's true.
The Pentagon failed its seventh consecutive audit on Friday as the agency was unable to fully account for its massive $824 billion budget ...
Of the Department of Defense's (DoD) 28 reporting entities that had standalone audits, 9 received an unmodified audit opinion, 1 received a qualified opinion, 15 received disclaimers, and 3 opinions remain pending, the Pentagon said.
$824 billion, and they can't fully account for it. But don't worry, they say they're on track to pass an audit by 2028, so that's good.

[Comptroller of the Pentagon, Michael] McCord told reporters at a briefing on Friday that he would not say that the agency 'failed' as it had 'about half clean opinions.'
'So if someone had a report card that is half good and half not good, I don't know that you call the student or the report card a failure,' he said.
Yeah, pretty sure if I get a zero on half of my test I fail the test. Not sure where you went to school, buddy.
As part of this annual tradition, let's revisit Jon Stewart smoking a DoD official for this failure last year.

I think it's a tough argument to make that an $850 billion budget to an organization that can't pass an audit and tell you where that money went, like, I think most people would consider that somewhere in the realm of waste, fraud, or abuse, because they would wonder why that money isn't well accounted for.
Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks laughed in his face and Stewart doesn't miss a beat.
Now that Trump is in charge, and now that DOGE is a thing, I hope that Stewart and other libs remember that they were fine holding government's feet to the fire when there were no real consequences for those in charge.
Now that everything seems to be on the chopping block, I hope Stewart doesn't come out and defend the poor, pitiful DoD officials who were just trying to serve their country.
In reality, fat has to be trimmed.
The incompetence has to stop.
