Just days after Democrats win a majority in the Senate, Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema announces she's leaving the Democratic Party.

With Raphael Warnock's win in Georgia, the Democrats lead in the Senate went from 50/50, with Vice President Kamala Harris being the tie breaker, to 51/49.

The lead gave the Democrats some breathing room against rogues in their party like Joe Manchin or Kyrsten Sinema, who have been known to hold up Democrat agendas to get better deals for their constituents and the American people.

But now Senator Sinema is casting that breathing room into question, as she officially announced that she has left the Democrat party and registered as an Independent.

Sinema said,

"I've never fit neatly into any party box. I've never really tried. I don't want to. Removing myself from the partisan structure – not only is it true to who I am and how I operate, I also think it'll provide a place of belonging for many folks across the state and the country, who also are tired of the partisanship."

Sinema has not explicitly said whether she will caucus with the Democrats like Independent Senators Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Angus King of Maine, but she also hasn't signaled that she will caucus with the Republicans either.

In an op-ed she wrote for the Arizona Republic, she said that her approach has "upset both parties."

And she's honestly pretty funny doing it sometimes:

But her op-ed was serious enough:

"When politicians are more focused on denying the opposition party a victory than they are on improving Americans' lives, the people who lose are everyday Americans," Sinema wrote.

"That's why I have joined the growing numbers of Arizonans who reject party politics by declaring my independence from the broken partisan system in Washington."

I don't know why she would want to leave. Who wouldn't want people filming you in the bathroom when you don't toe the party line?
