Two inmates tunneled through their cell wall only to get caught at IHOP hours later 🥞

Two inmates, John M. Garza, 37, and Arley V. Nemo, 43, were locked up in a Virginia jail, and they wanted out (obviously).

So, using primitively-made tools made out of a toothbrush and a metal object, they dug a hole through the wall and actually escaped!

I kid you not. This is the classic prison break we've all seen in cartoons and movies, but IN REAL LIFE!

Check out the hole they managed to dig:

Around 7 p.m. on Monday night, the Newport News Jail Annex discovered the two inmates missing during a routine head count.

Fortunately, the pair of criminal masterminds were spotted at the IHOP in Hampton, Virginia the next morning, since no one can resist a delicious stack of hot pancakes at any hour of the day or night.

And well... it was only a short time until someone noticed the odd duo and called the police.

"I'm thankful for the citizens who observed Garza and Nemo at the IHOP and notified law enforcement. It reinforces what we always say "see something, say something," Sheriff Gabe Morgan said in a news release.

In their statement, the Newport News Sheriff's Office explained that a preliminary investigation found the men exploited a weakness in the jail's construction design and used the homemade tools to access untied rebars in the wall, which they then used for the rest of their escape. After getting out, the two encountered containment walls and had to scale a wall to leave the area.

Once authorities noticed they were missing, they asked for the public's help to find the men.

According to the sheriff's office, Garza, who lives in Hampton, was in custody on charges including contempt of court, probation violations, and failure to appear. Nemo, a Gloucester resident, was being held on charges of credit card fraud, credit card larceny, forgery, possession of burglary tools, grand larceny, contempt of court, and probation violation.

The sheriff's office said they are investigating to prevent future escapes, and charges related to the escape are still pending.
