Some people seem to have taken this as "I'm shutting down the FBI headquarters for good to drain the Swamp."
But that's not what Patel said.
He started by saying he's going to take 1,500 of the 11,000 agents in D.C. and assign them to states so they aren't all piled in the capital (law enforcement is like manure - totally pointless unless you spread it around).
He then said he was shutting down the J. Edgar Hoover Building, the FBI headquarters finished in 1975, because it is not "safe." The building was scheduled to be replaced almost two decades ago and has expensive, ongoing maintenance issues.
From the Federal News Network in 2023:
Nick Dimos, the assistant director of the FBI's Finance and Facilities Division, told members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Tuesday that parts of the building are also dropping onto employee workspaces and equipment.
'The FBI J. Edgar Hoover Building, quite frankly, is failing' Dimos said during an economic development, public buildings and emergency management subcommittee hearing.
The FBI spent $75 million between 2011 and 2023 to prevent the plumbing in the building from having a "catastrophic" breakdown.
'Pipe bursts and plumbing challenges are commonplace, leading to the damage of FBI space, IT and records,' he said.
The building's electrical systems are also wonky, and if all that isn't bad enough:
Nets around the Hoover building perimeter keep chunks of concrete from falling off and hitting pedestrians.
Government construction at its finest!
The American people are paying millions of dollars for the FBI to rent offices around the DC area so they aren't all reliant on a building that clearly needs to be demolished.
So before the redpilled lads get hyped that the Deep State is being dismantled after spying on and censoring the American people under Joe Biden (not to mention covering up Hunter Biden's laptop), understand what's actually happening:
If you're gonna come work at the premiere law enforcement agency in the world, we're gonna give you a building that's commensurate with that.
Sounds to me like Patel is following Trump's vision to give the FBI a "new and spectacular building" that will expand the agency and its power.
Gotta pray he stays true to his desire to dismantle the Deep State in that shiny new building.
